Christian and I are sad to announce that Smokey has been taken from us because of his battle with cancer. His lung cancer was just too aggressive, and in the end, we made the decision that was best for him and his quality of life.
We said goodbye to our baby peacefully and in the comfort of our own home, surrounded by his favorite things. Smokey was everything to us, and one of our favorite memories of his life was how much our friends, families and strangers adored him.
This was a day we often thought about and dreaded, like anything you love in your life that you know will ultimately come to an end. On the final day of his life, we made the decision to sit quietly with him for hours, telling him everything we ever possibly felt about him. Most importantly we thanked him, for being who he was, and every amazing feeling he brought to us and the people who knew him.
There was something about his final day that ended up being so perfect. Instead of being left with nothing but sadness, we saw amazing beauty in his final moments, and we did everything we could to make sure the respect we have for him was reflected in how the process unfolded.
He laid on his favorite blanket, surrounded by his favorite items, candles lit all around him and us. The doctor who came to our house to help us say goodbye to Smokey unexpectedly happened to be a British woman who grew up near Stonehenge, and was an absolute angel to all three of us. It was clearly meant to be.
The fact that we were able to do all of this left us with the satisfaction that he had the best possible ending that we will never forget, as we were left reflecting on the beauty of this moment being able to be done at the level he deserved. It was a send off for a cat king.
Smokey, we love you and you meant everything to us. In life you were a part of everything we did, and our esteem, deep connection and absolute love for you will never fade.

Hello everyone. Our wonderful Smokey, the grumpy-faced kitty you've all come to know and love, has gotten devestaing news. He has been dignosed with lung cancer. This shocking news happened extremely suddenly as we just found out on Wednesday March 29th, 2017.
Our first priority is Smokey's quality of life, and decisions are being carefully weighed with his best interest in mind. Tomorrow, Saturday April 1st, we have an appointment with an oncologist to go over our options.
Although our search for treatment has only begun, Smokey's emergency medical bills have already reached in the thousands in mere days. This is only to cover the blood tests, x-rays, diagnosis, and immediate relief that he's been given already.
Smokey is not just our pet. He's a part of our culture. From our old show Best Game Show Ever, to appearances on Reddit, to allowing us to dress him up in costumes for live streams, he brings smiles to faces wherever he is seen. We've seen first hand how much anyone who has come in contact with Smokey instantly falls in love with him, and we know he's touched many of your lives.
We genuinely love sharing Smokey with all of you, and your love for him fills our hearts with so much comfort. Thank you for all of your support and encouraging words thus far. It truly means the world to us.
