Hi there, my name is Ocean Ruel, you may know me or at least recognize my name from work I've done within the areas of human rights advocacy for marginalized youth within our community. Most recently I was honored with the title of the Toronto Pride 2023 Youth Ambassador. Outside of my advocacy work, I am a regular francophone teen who loves Taylor Swift, Track & Field all things Star Trek. When I'm home I'm usually snuggling with my American Bully or practicing Jiu-Jitsu with my baby sister.

Oh yeah, I happen to be transgender and I am seeking financial support for my gender-affirming top surgery. This procedure is essential for me to live authentically and alleviate the gender dysphoria that I have been experiencing daily. Since I was 11 years old I have publicly identified as a transgender boy and have been working towards aligning my body with my true self. For many years I have been ready to take the next step in my transition journey, and now finally my doctors, therapists and the Ministry of Health agree.

Unfortunately, the cost of surgery is unaffordable, and the provincial health care (OHIP) does not cover the entire amount of surgery, aftercare and rehabilitation with the team I've chosen. I am reaching out to my friends, family, and the community to help me raise the necessary funds for this procedure, which will be life-affirming. The total cost is estimated to be $7,000. Any contribution, no matter how small, will bring me closer to my goal and help me feel more comfortable in my own body.
