Support for Nora's Mastectomy Surgeries
Donation protected
My very dear friend Nora is having a prophylactic (preventative) bilateral mastectomy in June 2019 in San Diego, CA. This is a major surgery and will impact her for many months. There will also be two reconstruction surgeries later in the year (likely around September and December).
For some background, Nora has a family history of breast cancer and is at very high risk herself of developing breast cancer. Nora lost her mother to breast cancer in 1995, when her mother was 30 years old. As an adult, Nora underwent genetic testing, and she found out that she is positive for the BRCA gene, which substantially increases her risk of developing breast cancer. Nora has been amazing through all of this in carefully considering all her options and has received wonderful support from her family, friends, medical team, and others in helping her through this process. Nora’s medical team recommends having these surgeries and Nora is deciding to take this brave, proactive step, which will significantly reduce her high risk (by at least 95%) of developing breast cancer. It has been a difficult and heavy decision, but she ultimately feels confident these surgeries will allow her to live a longer, happier life.
Even with insurance, these surgeries are financially and physically costly, and I’m hoping that her friends and family will come together to support her during this tough time. To that end, I am setting up this fundraising page to help ease the burden during her recovery period. While the goal here is lofty, no amount is too small. Anything you can contribute would be helpful in supporting Nora through this process. Nora thanks you from the bottom of her heart for your generosity.
Please keep her in your prayers for a full and speedy recovery ♥.
