It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Avaron Simms, known to many as Reaper Mook, who peacefully transitioned on January 13, 2026. Avaron was deeply loved and respected by his community. Through his music, voice, and spirit, he touched countless lives, and his passion will continue to live on through the memories and art he shared.

We are raising funds to help cover ceremonial expenses and to establish a trust for his beloved son, in hopes of easing the financial burden on his family during this incredibly difficult time. The support from friends, family, and the community means so much as we honor Avaron's legacy and help provide for his son’s future.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing and keeping his family and son in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your love and support.

About:

Born and raised in Long Beach, California. A Poly High School alumnus, he grew up immersed in both sports and music, discovering his creative voice early through a blend of visual art, R&B influences, and lyrical storytelling. These elements that would later define his distinctive sound.

In 2014, Mook began releasing music under the name DRTYWTRZ, creating soulful R&B alongside fellow Long Beach native, DJ, and producer NiceGuyxVinny. The project was rooted in live performance, with the duo playing local shows backed by a live band and building a strong foundation within the city’s music scene.

A few years later, Mook leaned further into rap as a form of expression, partnering with rapper and musician Dez Yusuf to form the duo Crimewave 5150. The group became a staple of the Long Beach DIY scene, earning a reputation for high-energy performances and creative authenticity. During this era, they opened for artists such as Too Short, 03 Greedo, Roc Marciano, Turnstile, and more, and were featured on the cover of LA Record Magazine.

In 2019, with fatherhood on the horizon, Mook committed fully to his solo career, marking a pivotal turning point in his artistic journey. Constantly pushing himself to innovate and evolve, he refined a sound that balanced introspection, confidence, and cinematic atmosphere. His breakout project, For The Pagne (2021), introduced listeners to a mature, focused vision, blending reflective lyricism with rich, mood-driven production. The release earned quiet but meaningful respect from peers and tastemakers alike.

In the summer of 2023, Mook was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, a moment that only sharpened his resilience and creative drive. He continued to expand his catalog with powerful releases including Pagne Galore (2024), Max 'Pagne Goes to New York (2024) , MONTAGE MUSIC (2025), and WHO NEEDS ENEMIES (2025), showcasing his depth, versatility, and unwavering commitment to his craft. During this period, he also continued performing, sharing stages with artists such as Freddie Gibbs, Maxo, Sauce Walka, and more.

A cherished friend, collaborator, and inspiration to many. His legacy lives on through his art, his music, and the impact he left on his community. Forever remembered, forever felt, and always in our hearts.
