On December 12, 2015, Kimberly married the love of her life, Greg Lockett, in a beautiful beach wedding in Tampa Bay. Kimberly looked stunning and glowed as she exchanged her vows with Greg in front of many close friends and family. It was a perfect day for an amazing couple about to embark on the rest of their lives together.
No one knew that under her radiant smile, Kimberly was battling more than just pre-wedding jitters. Two days before the wedding, Kimberly was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Squamos Cell Carcinoma (Rectal cancer).
On January 7th, Kimberly was told her case was too rare and complex for local doctors to treat and was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The Mayo Clinic has the only team of highly specialized doctors who are able to best treat a patient like Kimberly who also suffers from Chron's disease. She will undergo a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Her first appointment is January 28th.
Like many newlyweds, Kimberly and Greg are anxious to start a family of their own. The location of the cancer and treatment may make it impossible for Kimberly and Greg to have children. They have decided to explore fertility preservation and started in vitro fertilization on January 8th. This is an out of pocket expense and will cost approximatly $12,000.
Kimberly is a compassionate ICU nurse at St. Petersberg General Hospital, yoga instructor, FSU alumna, and dear friend to many.
Please consider making a donation to help support Kimberly's medical and fertility preservation costs. Any contribution no matter how big or small would mean the world to Kimberly and Greg.
While this will be a difficult journey, Kimberly and Greg know they will be able to get through this tough time thanks to the ongoing love and support of their families, friends, and communitities both near and far.
