Everyone knows the feeling of wanting to make a difference. We all love to make someone happy. Sometimes you can help in a practical way, but many times it’s so much more than that. We all see, there's a lot of need in the world, there are many people without a house, a home or a family. Some are lost and have no sense of direction in their live. These people are desperate for hope. When confronted with misery we would rather change the channel or scroll past the articles on social media, but it affects all of us. Me too. Yet the past years I feel called to make an impact in this world.
I am set on making a difference and I want to inspire others to do the same.
This is why I made the decision to partner with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and will move to France, Biarritz for two years to serve on their base.
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a global movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus personally to this generation, to mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. YWAM’s many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training, and mercy ministry. Through these ministries, they desire to see God’s transformation in every sphere of society.
I’m Junior! 22 years old, I love coffee, people, humor, music and God. Seven years ago I wouldn’t have included God in these things, but something happened that radically changed my life.
The sort-of-short version of this story is that by the age of 13, I had a deep desire to know who I was. This question revealed a void in me that kept growing. I was in a downward spiral, including addictions and depression. I didn’t think there was a way out of this darkness. My mom had recently gotten to know Jesus, which I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) understand, but seeing the impact it had on her made me wonder… I started going to church and started to make friends, their lifestyles were so different and made me wonder even more.
However my emptiness grew more and more, that's when I reached a very dark place. My new friends were different and I had the feeling it was possible to share my thoughts. One night I allowed them to pray with me and I encountered a love like no other. It was like my body and soul were embraced by this calming presence of acceptance and love. I met Jesus! I still can't find the words to accurately describe that moment, but this is pretty close. Joy came back into my life, I felt alive and the endless void finally filled with love. I now know who I am. I'm accepted, loved, valued, and significant! I'm still learning and I'm still failing, but I'm growing to become a better person, a better man and a better follower of Jesus. I want to become the best version of myself.
Though I don't ever share this lightly, I want to see my story bring hope, encouragement and that same encounter with God to the people who are broken. That's why I decided to serve in ministry through different worship teams, evangelism and mission trips, the latter I’ve gotten to do with YWAM during my Music DTS in 2016. I had an amazing time with community, adventure, challenges and became part of the vision that matched with my calling.
I wanted to go back ever since as a full time staff member on their team. Now, I've finally decided to do that.
How you can make a difference in this mission
To be straight forward I am going to need help to make this dream become reality.
YWAM is a voluntary organization which means everyone is responsible for their own funds and this is where you can help me!
For two years I will need a total of €23.000 for lodging, food, travel, outreach, insurance etc.
Here are some practical steps how you can help me:
In all things pray! You can pray that many will be blessed through the mission of YWAM and my time there. You can also pray for my finances, that I will gather the right amount in the right time!
2. Financial support*
There are two ways you can support me, I will appreciate every little donation and I am already so grateful for every
- One time donations: through this go-fund-me or to NL79 INGB 0672 3692 30 Y.E.H.J Effah-Bekoe (description: YWAM mission)
- But monthly donations are even better! Wether €10,- / €20,- / €35 or more, this gives me a way to plan my time and finances throughout the coming two years.
3. Spread the word!
Share the news that I will be going to Biarritz for two years! My mission is for everyone to hear. Share my go-fund-me on your social media and invite your friends to my page. This will be a great help!
