Supportive Care for Sammy
Donation protected
My sister Emily and her amazing boyfriend Dillon received awful news this week. Their two year old cat Sammy was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis. This is a rare and fatal disease. Sammy has been a bright ray of sunshine in their lives. I’ve never met a more affectionate cat. Throughout the rollercoaster of the pandemic, Sammy has been there with cuddles and a constant purr. He and their first cat Jax seemed like they were always meant to be brothers and instantly bonded. (They quickly also became partners in crime stealing food from the cabinets, Sammy doing the rummaging while Jax kept watch.) I just can’t put into words how impossible it is to imagine their home without Sammy.
On top of the gut punch of this diagnosis, Em and Dillon are facing mounting vet bills both from an emergency visit to drain fluid from his stomach and ongoing supportive care. Their amazing vet at Green Lake Animal Hospital, Dr. Gamber, has been guiding them through what hospice care will look like going forward.
Em and Dillon are two of the hardest working people I’ve ever met. It breaks my heart to picture the financial weight of this diagnosis hanging on them when they should just be enjoying their final months with their sweet Sammy. He's just their little buddy and rounds out their family.
If you’re able to contribute in any way, it’d be beyond appreciated. I know it’s been a rough financial time for a lot of people and if you can’t give I completely understand. If you could share this across social media, that would be incredible. To everyone who's reached out and supported them, thank you so much for loving these two amazing people and their sweet boys as much as I do.
