Help Our Family After Zachary's Passing

Donation protected
On Saturday night March 7th Zachary had a stroke. After several attempts by a doctor at Bay state to get the blood vessels in his brain to dilate, he was unsuccessful and his vessels continued to close. That day we made the decision as a family to have him air lifted to Mass General Hospital and it was the best decision we could have made for him. Once arriving here they told us that he most likely has a condition called reversible cerebral artery vasoconstriction. This is where the blood vessels in his brain almost spasm with constrictions. This is what was most likely causing his severe headings for weeks. This condition itself was a major factor but medications he was on were what cause his blood vessels to clamp shut and not release. As of right now Zach had a very large stroke on the left hemisphere of his brain. He will likely be paralyzed on his right side as well as having lost some of his communication ability. Last night we were told he has also had a mini stroke on his right occipital lobe that could cause vision loss in his left eye. With all the damage his brain has suffered Zach had to have a partial craniectomy which is the removal of the left side of his skull to allow for the brain to swell without causing any more damage. Unfortunately the damage in his brain was just too sever and the brain swelling became uncontrollable. we were told by the doctors at Mass General that if Zach were to survive he would have been blind, paralyzed on his right side, and unable to speak or comprehend speech. at this point we made the decision as a family to put Zach on comfort measures only. it was the only decision that was fair to him. Zachary was able to donate to others during this time and I couldn't be more proud of him for the gifts that he was able to give to others. We are all now trying to process and accept the events of the last week and that is going to take some time. we would love to keep this fundraiser going not only to raise money Zach's medical bills but also to help create a fund for Charlie as well as Give a donation to someone who is doing Research on the rare syndrome that Zachary was diagnosed with. I hope someday I will be able to have more answers on exactly why this happened to Zach and I hope that I can save another family from having to experience the same loss that we have. Thank you all so much ❤️
