Kayla's Traveling & Medical Expense

Donation protected
This is my daughter Kayla, she is 24 yrs old and February 2014 she ended up in the ER with severe migraine headaches. They scanned her brain and found a mass that was bleeding so they air lifted her to Florida Hospital South where after a weeks stay in ICU they determined it to be cavernous angioma. It was located in her brain stem and they advised we should not do surgery because it was too dangerous and she most likely wouldn't live. They said we'd monitor every six months by MRI. The first MRI showed significant growth and her case was presented to the tumor board where the decision was made to wait another six months for a second MRI. The second MRI showed the mass had grown twice in size, they went to the tumor board again and determined now they wanted to do surgery. When I asked why would you want to now do the surgery you said all along was too dangerous, they looked us in the eye and said "because it has grown, it isn't a cavernous angioma and we need to remove it or she will 100% die". So September 16, 2015 Kayla was admitted to Florida South again for brain surgery. After six hours of surgery Kayla's right side went down and they stopped the surgery. They were not able to remove the entire tumor but the doctor said surgery was the right way to go as the pressure the mass was causing would have killed her. We were concerned she would wake up paralyzed on the right side but thank the Lord she was not. She is weakened on that side and needs therapy but we were hopeful that she would recover. Our rejoicing was short lived as we heard from pathology the mass has been labeled "CHORDOMA" which is cancer and the cure for this type of cancer is to remove it but unfortunately they cannot safely remove the entire tumor due to the location. It is wrapped around her brain stem & 6 major blood vessels. Well, we met with the oncologist today and were told the best treatment for her would be proton therapy (radiation) this cancer does not respond well to treatment and this will be her best chance at destroying the remaining cancer cells. The best place to have this done is in Boston, second best being Jacksonville and the treatment is 7 1/2 weeks long, with treatment 5 days each week. We of course want the best treatment for our daughter Kayla but unfortunately this is going to be a financial impossibility. Kayla is a vibrant, beautiful, independant woman just beginning her life as a young adult. She is full of life and her smile brightens your day! Please help us raise the funds to give her a chance at the best possible treatment. Our lives will never be the same but we want many more chapters of life with Kayla. God bless you and thank you in advance for your prayers and your support.
