Alcohol affects more than 15 million people nationally and is the most abused drug in the United States. No one intentionally becomes addicted to alcohol. Certainly, our gregarious and faithfully minded friend Brad never intended to inflict himself or his family with the physical and mental pain that addiction brings.
While studying at Trinity International University outside of Chicago, Brad cultivated two endeavors that steered his future and produced more joy than he could have ever dreamed. One was dating Dawn, who shared his love of the Bible and became his wife of 29 years and the mother of their four children. The second was working at The Gap, where Brad's congenial nature and love for engaging people propelled his career advancements (and multiple moves around the country), culminating in the thrill of being recruited by Apple as a Market Leader and ultimately relocating to Ventura, California.
With big smiles, loving hearts and quick wit, it wasn't hard for Brad and Dawn to forge lasting friendships along the way. Unfortunately, for uncertain reasons, be it stress or heredity or one too many skateboard falls, Brad developed an addiction to alcohol that he could not overcome. Despite his efforts, the consequences of his addiction compounded in a devastating domino effect; loss of career, lost income, strained relationships, poor health, and ultimately loss of life. On November 18, 2022, Brad succumbed to liver failure at age 52.
Brad's death reverberates through the hearts of those he befriended and mentored from coast to coast. Our memories of Brad vary, but because we each witnessed his joy as we shared time with him through praise, music, surfing, skating, or even Coen Brothers movies, he will always be a joyous part of us.
Sadly though, Dawn's life is in upheaval. While grieving and attempting to console their children, Dawn has assumed the financial obligations that must seem daunting to a recent widow with two children under age 16 and two in college. During this time, so many of you have asked how to help. This fundraiser was created to provide Dawn's family support and comfort in their time of need. My greatest hope is that we (friends, family and strangers) can temporarily reduce the financial stress of everyday living costs. Without the constant worry of money, Dawn will be better able to grieve with her children and begin healing from the tragic loss of Brad.
Your prayers and donations for Dawn, Soren, Sophie, Solana and Sheperd are very much appreciated.
