It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that AJ has passed away on December 18, with his family by his side.
We are so grateful for the love, support and shares that he has received over the last two months. Your support meant so much to him and he told me multiple times about how thankful and grateful he was for everything everyone was doing for him.
We spoke about how his entire career was centered around serving others and how right now, his job was to rest and be served.
As his work family, we are asking if you would consider continuing to serve his family with donations while they prepare arrangements for AJ and make plans for his son's future. Both Elsewhere locations are adding The AJ Way on to the menu permanently, after AJ's affairs are closed out, any additional proceeds from both the go fund me and the sale of AJ's favorite sandwich will go towards his son's future.
We ask that you hold the Guerrero family in your hearts, especially his parents, young son, and girlfriend who are all navigating a devasting loss during the holidays.
Hannah B. - Elsewhere, Elsewhere Too
Supporting AJ — Our Kitchen Manager, Friend, and Elsewhere Family.
At Elsewhere, we’ve always believed in giving back to our community — from supporting the Girl Scouts of America and our amazing LGBTQ+ family, to helping the animals at the San Antonio Zoo and Primarily Primates- to inviting small local vendors to set up and sell their goods at our Thursday markets.
Now, we find ourselves asking for your support in return.
Our kitchen manager, AJ, has recently been diagnosed with cancer, and we’re rallying together to support him through his treatment and recovery. If you’ve ever enjoyed a burger, fried chicken sandwich, or a loaded fry at Elsewhere over the past two and a half years, there’s a good chance AJ was behind that meal — and the memory you made while sharing it.
AJ is not the kind of person who would ever ask for help himself, but he’s graciously allowed us to step in and do so on his behalf. While we can’t fight this battle for him, we can surround him with the love, strength, and support he needs during this time.
As a young father, AJ’s world has changed overnight. Stepping away from work to focus entirely on healing comes with emotional and financial challenges — and that’s where our community can make a difference.
Whether it’s $1 or $100, a few kind words, or simply stopping by to order one of AJ’s favorites — the Buffalo Chicken Tender Sandwich or a Mountain Dew (he’s not a drinker, but he sure does “Do the Dew”) — it all helps. All proceeds from sales of AJ’s sandwich and his signature drink will go directly toward supporting him and his family as will the money from this fundraiser.
Thank you for standing with AJ, and for showing once again that Elsewhere isn’t just a place — it’s a community that takes care of its own.
