If you know our mom, Voula, you know she is the first person to show up when someone needs help. Whether it’s feeding family and friends, giving her time, offering advice, or sharing whatever money she has, Voula has always put others before herself. Helping people is simply who she is.
Today, our family finds ourselves in the difficult position of asking for help on her behalf.
Voula is bravely fighting blood cancer—Multiple Myeloma. She began her treatment journey in the summer of 2025 at NCH in Arlington Heights, facing months of treatment with incredible strength, faith, and determination. Through it all, she has remained positive and hopeful, even while navigating the emotional and physical toll of cancer.
To complete her treatment and give her the best chance at long-term remission, her oncologist recommended a stem cell transplant. This next step in her journey brought her to the University of Chicago, where she is now undergoing this intensive procedure.
Voula will be admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, January 21st, where she will receive a high-dose chemotherapy treatment. On Friday, January 23rd, she will be infused with her own healthy stem cells—a critical step in rebuilding her immune system and continuing her fight against cancer. She is expected to remain hospitalized for 2–3 weeks, followed by a long recovery period at home.
While insurance covers part of the medical treatment, there are many significant expenses it does not cover—out-of-pocket medical costs, medications, extended care needs, travel, and recovery-related expenses. These costs quickly add up and have created a financial burden during an already overwhelming time.
That is why my sisters and I are reaching out. We are asking for help to support our mom with the expenses surrounding her stem cell transplant so she can focus fully on healing—without the added stress of financial worry.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, we truly appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and sharing this fundraiser with others.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read about Voula’s journey and for standing with her during this fight. Your kindness, generosity, and support mean more than words can express.
