It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I am creating this GoFundMe following the sudden and devastating loss of Dmitriy Velikanov, a beloved husband and father. His wife Valentina and their two daughters, Natalya and Darya, are facing an unimaginable loss after years of standing beside him throughout his battle with cancer.

For years, Dmitriy courageously battled myelofibrosis, a rare and serious form of blood cancer. His illness took an enormous toll on his body and led to severe anemia, kidney complications, frequent blood transfusions, countless appointments, hospital stays, treatments, and significant medical expenses. Through every setback, he continued to fight, surrounded by a family who loved him deeply and did everything they could to care for and support him.

Tragically, on October 1st, their world changed in an instant.

Dmitriy suffered a fall and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered that he had suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke—a devastating brain bleed. Because of the severity of the bleeding, combined with the complications his body had already endured throughout his battle with myelofibrosis, his family was faced with an unimaginable decision.

Knowing that invasive procedures would not change the outcome, they made the heartbreaking decision to keep him comfortable and surround him with love rather than put him through additional suffering.

Later that evening, he passed away.

Dmitriy’s death came incredibly suddenly, leaving his wife not only grieving the loss of her husband, but also facing the financial aftermath of his prolonged illness and the immediate cost of laying him to rest.

I am creating this fundraiser specifically to help ease that burden for his wife, Valentina. All funds raised will go toward his outstanding medical expenses and the unexpected costs of his funeral and burial.
