Hello Friends!

 

We have all watched in horror as the refugee crisis has unfolded in Eastern Europe. This modern-day catastrophe is something we can all do something about. For me and my family, I am making it personal and going to Romania to provide volunteer support. Not as part of my job, but as a human being who is deeply disturbed by what I am seeing. In short, I feel "called" to action. I am hoping to raise funds to assist with travel expenses and purchase and transport critically needed items with me on the trip to the Romanian border.

 

I am planning to go to the border crossing in Sighetu Marmației, Romania, to assist with refugee support. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have crossed over into Romania since the war began. At the border crossing where I will be volunteering there is a welcome/intake center for these refugees as their first stop on their journey. At the center refugees have "a first aid point in one of the tents, offering to incoming refugees: food (sandwiches, sweets, tea, water), first aid support and medication (cleaning of wounds, treating of minor affections, monitoring of blood sugar and blood pressure, etc.), emotional support, and a play area for children so that mothers can have a moment to breathe. Refugees need various type of help, being registered, and help with their bags, etc." This is the type of assistance I will be helping to support. The funds I raise will be utilized to defray travel expenses and to purchase needed supplies which I will be bringing. ANY surplus funds will be donated to provide additional refugee support to United Way of Romania to continue their supportive efforts.
