Supporting Trey During his Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
My name is Diana and I’m raising money for my 25-year-old nephew, Trey. His real name is Pete and he’s the 3rd Pete in his family, so that’s why they call him Trey. Trey is a sweet, young man that has always been the guy in your group that will cheer you up or make you laugh somehow, some way. He lights up a room with his happiness and will literally cause your stomach to ache from so much laughter.
Recently, he went in to have one of his wisdom teeth removed and, for days after, was experiencing extreme pain that finally forced him to visit the emergency room. The doctors at the hospital in Dallas were very concerned about his white blood cell count because it was off the charts. Unfortunately, due to hospital overloads from Covid-19, they had to airlift him to Houston for an accurate diagnosis.
While at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the doctors diagnosed him with a rare, aggressive form of Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia that requires immediate treatment. The doctors are urging Trey’s family to keep him in Houston to continue his intense treatment there for the next six months. So far, we know that will include a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy. We are so thankful for the expertise and amazing care the doctors and nurses have provided to Trey, especially during these difficult times.
Trey’s parents are a working-class family and cannot just pick up and move to Houston. I am trying to raise $7,500 to pay for their lodging during this treatment period (5 months’ worth of rent, the first month has already been generously paid for by a friend).
This is my first time asking for support for a family member on Go Fund Me. We never thought we’d need to take such a drastic step of asking others for help. Our entire family has been through a lot. Trey’s aunt went through breast cancer treatments over a decade ago and she’s a proud survivor. Trey’s grandmother just survived colon cancer and was declared cancer-free last summer. However, Trey’s grandfather passed away this past Thanksgiving unexpectedly. Trey has a sweet, 4-year-old daughter, Jackie, who has no idea that her dad is fighting this fight. Despite all this, as well as dealing with the pandemic and Texas’ recent weather issues, we continue to keep the faith and do our best to take care of each other. But we are asking for help this time around.
Any donation amount at all would be welcomed and greatly appreciated. To help get the word out, please consider sharing this link on your Facebook Timeline. Thank you so much for your help.
