Supporting Tomorrow's Healers

Imagine a world where the next generation of medical professionals, scientists, and innovators are born from the hallways of Animo Watts College Preparatory Academy. Located in the heart of South LA, we are determined to end the cycle of limited opportunities for our students. With your help, we will be able to do just that, by allowing our students to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Health and Medicine (NYLF).

Student Stories:
Meet Alexisrae: My name is Alexisrae, I live in Los Angeles, California, and I want to pursue a career in the medical field because I love helping people. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to be a doctor. Then as I got older I became interested in obstetrics and gynecology. I love helping people and through this career, I will be able to help with delivering babies and changing people’s lives.

Meet Oscar: Hello, my name is Oscar. I’m from Los Angeles, California. What inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field is just to help other people the best I can. I’ve been following this career for about 4 years and I really want to become a psychologist. Participating in this program would help me fulfill my dream of trying to help other people with their life and what they’re going through.

Meet MaQuis: My name is MaQuis and I live in Los Angeles California. I would like to try and pursue a career in the medical field because I sincerely want to help people and put a smile on their face.

Meet Diana: My name is Diana and I live in Los Angeles, California. I want to pursue a career in the medical field because I believe that health matters a lot and it’s important to save lives instead of losing lives. I have wanted to pursue this career since I was in middle school. When I was in middle school, I knew I wanted to be in the medical field but didn’t know what I would pick. After a while, I decided I wanted to become an ultrasound technician. To be a part of this program would mean the world to me because my dream career is to be a part of the medical field. I enjoy caring for others and trying to help them whenever they are sick or don’t feel well. This program can help me with my long term goal because I will gain some of the knowledge I need for my future career through this program.

NYLF Health and Medicine serves to provide high school students with the opportunity to not only explore the various career opportunities in the medical field, but also to give students the opportunity to speak with prominent leaders in healthcare and learn techniques that they would not otherwise be exposed to in their everyday high school classrooms. This 10 day program is offered in multiple locations outside of Los Angeles: Atlanta, New York, Washington, D.C., Berkeley, St. Louis, and Raleigh. While attending the program, students get to live on college campuses and gain first-hand experience of what it would be like to attend college. NYLF will give our students the unique opportunity to travel outside of Los Angeles and participate in a college-readiness program, where they will be surrounded by like minded peers, counselors, and mentors, that can instill in them confidence and enthusiasm in taking the next step towards their long term career goals.

Your contribution to our students today will extend far beyond allowing them to attend this summer program. With your contribution, you are actively working towards creating the healthcare professionals of tomorrow and increasing the representation of Black and Latino individuals in the medical field. As our first group of students participating in this program, our students will come back with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills to encourage and inspire Black and Latino youth to pursue careers in the medical field.

Thank you for your consideration in donating, we really appreciate any and all contributions that you can make for our students. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to our program coordinator, Natalie Moreno. Thank you all for your support ❤
