This Easter weekend my niece and nephew Lexi and Dylan Walters, and their two young children, Finley (3) and Myla (2) lost their home and all of their belongings in a tragic house fire.

While we are reeling from the loss of their home, we are profoundly grateful that everyone is safe. In a moment of unimaginable crisis, Lexi and Dylan acted with incredible bravery, breaking the windows of their children’s bedrooms to pull them to safety. Lexi cut her foot while climbing through her son’s window, later requiring stitches. Dylan, suffered burns and smoke inhalation while reentering the home to save their pets. They managed to rescue their two cats. Unfortunately, they were unable to rescue their dog, Zara and she tragically passed away from smoke inhalation.

They have lost everything from essentials like clothes and shoes to the irreplaceable items that make a house a home. As they begin the long process of navigating insurance and finding a long term place to stay, the immediate reality is that they need to start replacing the basics for themselves and their children.
