Three years ago, the Vos family left Ukraine with their two young daughters, to build a new life in Canada. Far from the comfort of friends and extended family, they have not been able to return, since the war began.

Recently, their world was turned upside down when their 5-year-old daughter Viktoriia, began complaining of pain in her eye. What seemed like a minor concern quickly became every parent’s worst fear — doctors discovered a tumour on her brain. Within 48 hours, she underwent emergency surgery at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

Thankfully, the tumour was non-malignant, and she is expected to make a slow, yet full recovery. However, the road ahead will be long and challenging. As the family focuses on her healing, they are also facing significant financial strain due to time away from work, medical appointments, and the cost of living while in Toronto for her care.
