Supporting The Tuck Family

As many of you all know my Godson Miles was diagnosed with kidney cancer this week.

Miles just turned 2 a the end of November and was having unexplained fevers that prompted Ellen and Dustin to get a further work up. Over the weekend they found a mass in Miles' right kidney. Unfortunately, further scans and testing on Monday showed that it was Wilm's tumor. Miles was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer that had metastasized to a small portion in his right lung. Tuesday he underwent surgery to remove his kidney and have a port placed for chemotherapy. The surgery went well with no complications, but the journey is far from over. We are still currently waiting for pathology and hematology/oncology to guide us in the next steps. This fight has just started and we will beat this awful disease.

Pediatric Cancer is an unimaginable situation for any parent to be in and they are continuing to process and take it one day at a time. This family has already been through the ringer. For those of you that do not know, Ellen & Dustin's older son Elijah had a brain injury called hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy during/shortly after birth. Ellen and Dustin have worked tirelessly to give Eli the best chances of recovery and success and they have done an incredible job raising a miracle baby. However, this cruel world has yet again decided to test the strength of the Tuck family through this fight. We believe in miracles in this family. Ellen's determination, Dustin's tenacity, Elijah's sweet soul and Miles' wild spirit will prevail.

I know that many of you have asked how to help in what feels like such a helpless situation. The most important thing we can do is to continue to support Ellen, Dustin, Miles, and Eli - as a family and as individuals. The road ahead is long but I know that with this community we will make sure that they know they have a village with them every step of the way.

Please reach out to myself or Brandon if you would like to send a letter to Miles (or the family). I know that words of encouragement, pictures, prayers and well wishes will continue to lift them up. We have also created a Kudo Board for anyone that would like to send something electronically HERE!!

The Tuck family has expressed interest in putting together a meal train. However, with COVID protocols and Miles' long immunocompromised journey ahead with chemotherapy and numerous hospital visits, we have decided it would be best to raise money and allow them to purchase meals through door dash, provide childcare for their other son Eli, and use the money any way they need to support them during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you all so much for your generosity, your well wishes, your thoughts and prayers. Continue to keep the Tuck family close at heart. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to do something additional for the family.

Love,
The Copelands
