Nine months ago, Dustin Strain suffered a life-altering stroke. Since leaving the hospital, he has been committed to extensive therapy and ongoing recovery, facing challenges no one ever plans for.
Ten days before Christmas, the family was hit with another devastating blow when Dustin lost his job. Because of his medical needs, Erin cannot leave him alone for extended periods of time, which makes it extremely difficult for her to work outside the home. Compounding these challenges, the Strains do not have any family locally who are able to assist with daily care or support.
Their children — ages 7, 10, and 13 — remain actively involved in school and various activities, including baseball and volleyball. These routines have provided stability and a much-needed sense of normalcy during such an uncertain time.
The family has chosen to be an open book and is willing to share more details with anyone who would like to better understand their situation. Erin is actively seeking work-from-home opportunities that would allow her to care for Dustin’s daily needs while also helping to provide for their family.
With the loss of Dustin’s job also came the loss of their health insurance, which had been covering his daily therapy. This has been a significant setback, not only financially, but also to Dustin’s recovery and continued progress.
At this time, the Strains are seeking assistance with monthly living expenses, maintaining Dustin’s therapy and medications, covering their mortgage, and keeping their children in their familiar Aledo community, which has been a vital source of support throughout this journey.
Any donation, share, or kind word is deeply appreciated. Thank you for supporting the Strain family during this difficult time.
