On August 6th, 2025, our brother-in-law Ian was involved in a traumatic accident caused by a catastrophic mechanical failure on his vehicle. He was airlifted to the nearest trauma center with serious injuries. By the grace of God — and thanks to his quick thinking — Ian is still with us today.

However, his injuries are extensive and serious. Ian sustained:

• A broken clavicle

• 14 fractured ribs

• An open femur fracture

• A pelvic fracture

• And a pneumothorax

Ian now faces a long and painful road to recovery. As the owner of a newer small business, Ian does intense manual labor at his solar company and will be unable to work for at least the next 6 months — possibly longer. Additionally he is not eligible for any kind of disability benefits, unemployment, or family leave.

His wife Dana, my sister, is pregnant and due to deliver their baby girl via C-section in just a few short weeks. She is currently on maternity leave from her job as a nurse and also unable to work. Together, they are raising two young boys, with a third child soon to join the family.

What should be a joyful, exciting time — welcoming their baby girl into the world — has become a season filled with physical pain, emotional stress, and looming financial strain.

When Dana returns home from the hospital, she will be recovering from a major surgery while also needing to care for a newborn, two young sons, and her husband — who will be largely immobile and in need of full-time assistance.

Even with the strongest support system, the hurdles ahead are immense.
