Supporting the Quinto-Collins Family
Donation protected
Dear community,
On December 23, 2020, Angelo, a 30-year-old Filipino American veteran and Antioch resident, needed support during a mental health crisis. His family called 911. When Antioch police arrived, police handcuffed him and KNEELED ON HIS NECK FOR NEARLY FIVE MINUTES until he stopped breathing, his heart stopped, and his mouth and face were covered in his own blood. This happened in front of Angelo’s mother in their own home. They brought him to the hospital and within three days, Angelo passed away. His last words were to the police officers holding him down, “PLEASE DON’T KILL ME!” We believe Angelo Quinto died of asphyxiation while in police custody. Angelo Quinto was a son, an older brother, a grandson, a nephew, a friend, and one of many victims of police violence in the United States.
The Quinto-Collins family, and all of those worldwide who’ve been deeply impacted by Angelo’s story, continue to grieve Angelo almost a year later. The Quinto-Collins family are avid leaders in the journey for police reform in California and nationwide. A significant victory for police reform in California was the passing of AB 490 The Angelo Quinto Act of 2021. Because of the leadership of the Quinto-Collins family, CA will now ban all police restraint methods that cause positional asphyxia. This is a majority victory for all victims and their families who have fought for this kind of police reform for years.
We understand that the tragedy the Quinto-Collins family experienced, and countless other families of victims of police violence, can be very costly and we would like to support them through all the sacrifices they have made thus far. Because of this, the Justice for Angelo Quinto! Justice for All! Coalition is asking for support from the community to fundraise for the family of Angelo Quinto to cover any expenses they may have shouldered on their own. ALL DONATIONS will go directly to the Quinto-Collins Family.
Thank you to everyone who has uplifted Angelo’s story and for your ongoing support.
