Supporting The Purcells on the Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Sunday afternoon, just three minutes from home in Port Sydney, Kevin Purcell’s life changed in an instant.
While riding his motorcycle, Kevin was struck by a truck and trailer backing out of a driveway. He was alert and talking at the scene and again at the hospital in nearby Huntsville, but his injuries were serious. He was quickly airlifted by Ornge to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where he was placed in an induced coma and intubated for the flight.
Since arriving in the ICU at St. Mike’s, Kevin has undergone surgery to repair a broken femur, a likely source of internal bleeding, as well as a severely fractured forearm. These are just some of the many injuries he sustained. While his condition has thankfully been upgraded to non-life-threatening, he remains in an induced coma and is still not breathing on his own.
The best-case scenario right now is at least three more weeks in the ICU, followed by a long road to recovery back home.
His family is doing everything they can to be by his side. His wife, Liz, and his parents, who are traveling from St. Thomas (over 200 km away), are rotating daily between Toronto and Port Sydney (over 220 km away) to ensure someone can always be at the hospital and care for Kevin and Liz’s five-year-old daughter, Avery.
Kevin owns and operates his own HVAC business, and while some of the business operations may be able to continue in a limited way, Kevin himself won’t be able to return to the physical, hands-on work for quite some time. As a small business owner, this means a significant loss of income during what will be a lengthy recovery.
The added strain of travel, parking, accommodations, meals, childcare, and medical-related costs is a heavy burden on top of an already overwhelming situation.
This fundraiser is here to help ease that burden, so Kevin’s family can focus fully on his recovery, without the added stress of financial uncertainty.
If you’re able to give, no matter the amount, your kindness and support will mean the world to Kevin, Liz, Avery, and everyone who loves them.
Thank you for helping lift them up during this incredibly difficult time.
