Supporting the Novos

My name is Megan Kluczny and I am starting this gofundme in support of my friends the Novos as they undergo the financial strain of receiving a cancer diagnosis.

On January 24, 2024 after putting their daughters to bed (Sylvie 4.5, Margo 1.5) Julio and Elise simultaneously received a phone call from a Mayo Clinic hematologist stating Julio’s CBC (complete blood count) came back concerning, and that he needed to immediately report to the emergency department. After undergoing many tests and procedures and a couple nights in the ICU, Julio was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is one of the most aggressive blood cancers and Julio will need to undergo intensive chemotherapy that will require him to remain in the hospital for several weeks. After this initial chemotherapy phase a stem cell transplant may be necessary.

Julio and Elise moved from Arizona in 2021 so that Elise could continue her nursing career at Mayo Clinic where she currently works as a cancer research nurse. Julio has enjoyed being a stay at home dad the last couple years after stepping away from an engineering job. During this time Julio will be unable to be a caregiver to his girls while he undergoes strenuous inpatient treatments.

Their families live in Texas, and one of their biggest support persons, Grandma Nonnie was recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, and is being treated locally in Texas at MD Anderson.
