Supporting the MacKenzie's Through Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Candra Von Biela and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the MacKenzie family.
My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Wendy and Cody Mackenzie in the summer of 2018 at the Shifters Car Club hop night in Saskatoon. It was at the car club events I was able to get to know this lovely couple and their daughter Auhtumn. Just recently married and full of hope for the future they were making plans to buy their first home and start a life together. As the summer came to a close and winter came, we didn’t see them until the car shows started up again in 2019. It was then that we learned Wendy was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. This lovely young woman was now in a fight for her life. The dream of purchasing a home now had to be put on hold.
The treatment that was recommended for Wendy’s cervical cancer was heavy internal radiation which could only be done in Edmonton. Not only was this couple facing cancer but all the additional financial costs that were to come. Wendy endured 56 hours of intense radiation for 8 days for her first go at eradicating her cancer. The treatment left her skin burned from her torso down to her knees and unable to walk out of the hospital.
Late in the summer of 2022, Wendy learned her cancer had spread to her lung. Wendy has been battling cancer for the last three years. She has been doing chemo treatments during this period and has only been able to work part-time now and then. Cody has also been taking time off work to take Wendy to her treatments and on the days Wendy struggles after her chemo.
On January 24 of this year, Wendy was hospitalized for blood clots in her lungs and legs. It was at this time she received the devastating news that the chemo treatments she has been receiving for the last three years were not designed or strong enough to treat her type of cancer. Her scans were read wrong. She has now been listed as palliative.
This isn’t stopping Wendy as she is courageously battling her cancer with a new treatment plan. She is receiving heavy doses of chemo 3 days in a row and repeats this every 21 days. At just 35 years old, this beautiful young woman faces every day with an incredible amount of strength, hope and willpower to the sheer amazement of her loving husband Cody 35 and daughter Auhtumn who is only 9 years old.
Wendy is at home now alone during the weekdays as Cody has to work to support his family. Wendy messages him every 2 hours to let him know how she is doing in case he has to leave at a moment’s notice.
This family is now at a point where they need some financial relief. Please consider donating if you can and sharing with your friends and family.
I would like to say thank you to everyone who donates to this beautiful family. Small acts of kindness can make a huge difference as my family found out when we went through our cancer journey in 2021. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
With gratitude,
