Supporting the Johnson Family
Donation protected
Hello friends. My name is Kathy Bourgeois and my husband David and I began volunteering with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater Halifax (https://halifax.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/) in 2008. We were matched with a young man named Andre Johnson (now 20 years), and have fallen more in love with him each day since the day we met. Andre spends a lot of time at our house: weekends, family vacations, holidays. I recently learned his mother refers to us as “his other family.” Andre has always lived about a ten minute drive from our home. We love his family and know them well. They are kind, generous, funny, easygoing and loving people. We are so grateful to have them in our lives.
Andre graduated high school two years ago and has been working with Killam Properties (https://killamreit.com/) as part of an internship partnership with Phoenix Youth (https://phoenixyouth.ca/), a wonderful local nonprofit. He has been doing really well at work, and we have been helping save his earnings so he will have as many options as possible. We are so proud of the beautiful young adult he has become.
On January 26th of this year, our dear friend’s brother Anthony Johnson was shot while waiting for the last bus home at a bus stop in Halifax, NS. He died on the 6th of February. We laid Anthony to rest yesterday. I lack the words to describe what a shattering and heartbreaking experience this has been.
We are just so sad for our friend. We are hoping to raise funds to help him and his family absorb some of the costs they have recently incurred, and to maybe try and soften the impact of all of this for them. We just want to surround them with so much love and support. Please know that anything you decide to donate will be most gratefully received. Believe me when I say, even a little bit would make a big difference to this family. If you are unable to donate, please consider sending a wish or a prayer, and please share widely. Thank you!!
