My name is Heloise Vermeulen, a close friend of the Farrell family and a fellow South African. With the family’s permission, I have created a GoFundMe campaign, “Supporting the Family of Private Shaun Farrell (PPCLI),” to support them following Shaun’s tragic passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to show their support consider making a donation to the GoFundMe.
For those who would still like to bring flowers as a personal expression of sympathy, they can be placed at Memorial Square in front of City Hall and at the monuments on Central Ave.
Private Shaun Farrell of the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), tragically lost his life on October 17, 2026, during a live training exercise at CFB Wainwright.
Shaun was deeply devoted to serving his country and lived with integrity, loyalty and care for those around him. To his fellow soldiers, friends and family, he was much more than a soldier. He was a beloved son, brother and friend whose warmth and strength touched everyone who knew him.
Shaun leaves behind his deeply loving family: his mom, Patricia; his dad, Roland; his brother, Bryan; and his grandmother, Lynette Lottering.
No family is ever prepared for a loss like this. The GoFundMe will help ease the financial burden on the Farrell family, including funeral expenses and the costs of bringing family members together so they can support one another as they lay Shaun to rest. Let’s wrap our arms around them during this period of immense grief.
How you can help:
Donate: Contributions of any amount will directly support Shaun’s family.
Share: Please share the GoFundMe with your family, friends and networks.
Offer your support: Messages of comfort, prayers and memories of Shaun mean a great deal to the family.
Flowers: If you would like to leave flowers, please bring them to Memorial Square in front of City Hall and place them at the monuments.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, kindness, and support as we honour the memory of Private Shaun Farrell—a dedicated soldier, loving son, protective brother, and cherished friend.
Rest in peace, Shaun. You will never be forgotten.
