Hi, my name is Seb.
Last year, my family and I lost my dad to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). There was no warning, no expectation, no chance to prepare - just a normal Sunday morning that changed our lives forever.
Living with someone who had epilepsy was always frightening, but as a family we learned how to manage it together. We supported my dad, and we supported each other. Not everyone living with epilepsy, or caring for someone who has it, has that level of support or access to the help they need. That’s why I’m taking on this challenge.
This summer, I’ll be competing in the Ironman 70.3 in Swansea to raise awareness of epilepsy and to fundraise for the incredible Epilepsy Society. The Epilepsy Society provides vital support through research, awareness campaigns, and essential services for people with epilepsy and their families; including helplines, medical support, and care. No one should have to face this condition alone, and with funding, real change is possible.
It breaks my heart that my dad never saw me begin university, watch my brother compete at an elite swimming level, or see my sister graduate this year - he was our biggest supporter and deserved to experience these milestones with us. He never got the chance to grow old with my mum, train Maggie (his Rottweiler), or see the futures he worked so hard to plan come to fruition. He was a devoted family man who put us at the centre of everything he did.
I want to honour him by continuing to make him proud. Helping others affected by epilepsy feel supported, informed, and less alone will do that.
If you’re able to support my fundraising in any way, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me. Thank you for helping me turn loss into purpose.
