In September of this year Mark went to the doctor with stomach pain. He was soon sent to the ER and a few hours later the doctors gave him the news that they found a large mass in his colon. He was quickly diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer. Within a week, Mark had surgery to remove the baseball-sized tumor (as well as his gallbladder and several cancerous lymph nodes). He started chemotherapy in October and will continue treatments through December to make sure the tumor is completely gone and doesn't spread any further.
Due to the nature of the chemotherapy, Abby and Mark's hopes of adding to their family will now require medical intervention. Just like Mark's cancer, their dream of adding to their family is now in the hands of doctors. Abby and Mark will start IVF at the end of November.
In addition to these challenges, on the morning of November 21st Abby and Mark woke to learn their only reliable car (Abby's beloved minivan) was stolen from their driveway. The police told them it is unlikely they will recover the car in usable condition.
With mounting medical bills due to the cancer treatments and accompanying appointments, the cost associated with fertility treatments, and now buying a new car, they are financially overwhelmed. Our hope is to lessen this burden as they work through these challenging times. Thank you for your support!
