Earlier this year, Rob & Elizabeth learned the very joyful news they were expecting their third son, Alexander. At a follow-up ultrasound, they received devastating news: Alexander has a fatal condition called anencephaly, meaning that while his body is perfect, his brain and skull did not develop. As I write this, his heart is beating, and his life is sustained within the womb. But once he is born, his life will be short – minutes, to hours, to days.
No parent should have to witness their child’s death. Alexander’s short life reminds us of our own futility in a broken world. His life is living testimony to our need for a Savior, for someone to rescue us. Praise God that we have Jesus.
It is a very trying time. But they are holding onto hope and onto faith.
I can't describe what it feels like to watch my daughter and son (I don't count the 'in-law' part) make decisions about their son's funeral and burial. My heart is broken. Our Curtis & Hammerle extended family—grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins—are heartbroken alongside them.
I appreciate how you have all been asking, "How can I help?" By far the most important thing you can do is to lift the precious Curtis family up in prayer.
If you feel led to support them financially, your gift will help ease the burden during this incredibly difficult time.
Specifically, donations will help cover:
• Medical expenses and specialized testing to monitor Elizabeth’s health
• Funeral and burial costs for Alexander
• Home repairs as they prepare to move into their first home
• Time and space for Robbie and Elizabeth to grieve and heal
Your prayers, messages, and support mean more than we can express. Thank you for helping carry this family through such a difficult season.
