In 2022, I was diagnosed with stage 3C triple-negative inflammatory breast cancer. I was incredibly fortunate to reach a complete response in early 2023. But we recently received the news that my cancer has returned and is widespread throughout my body. It is not curable, but I am working closely with my medical team to begin the next phase of treatment, which will be ongoing and focused on giving me as much time—and quality of life—as possible.
My care will take place both locally in Colorado through UCHealth and also at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, which is one of the top—and one of the few—centers in the country with deep expertise in treating inflammatory breast cancer, an extremely rare and particularly aggressive form of the disease. Coordinating care across these locations gives me access to the most specialized treatment options available, but it also comes with additional travel and logistical costs. (Going back and forth to Houston and finding the money for PET scans every few months is particularly expensive.)
So many of you have already reached out asking how you might help, so this is one way to do so. There are many other ways too. Supporting those closest to me being at the top. I am doing all of this alongside my husband, Eric, and our three daughters—Grace, Layla, and Cadence—who are at the center of everything for me. They will need just as much support as I do right now.
Between treatment, appointments, and the unpredictability of living with metastatic cancer, there are growing financial pressures: medical expenses, travel for specialized care, and the everyday costs of keeping life moving for our family. Support will also help with some of the more immediate, practical needs—ordering meals on days when we don’t have the time or energy to cook, and staying stocked with the medications, toiletries, and small comforts that make the ongoing rhythm of chemotherapy a little more manageable.
If you feel moved to contribute, please know how deeply grateful I am. And if giving financially isn’t possible, your support in other ways—messages, meals, sharing this page—means just as much.
Thank you for being part of my circle. It truly means everything.
Tara
