Supporting Synette through cancer treatment and job loss

In November, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. Shortly after my diagnosis, I learned that I would be losing the contract I had been on for the past 4½ years. Of all times to lose income… this was the worst possible time. Since that time it has been a challenge to stay afloat emotionally, physically, and financially.

On January 14, 2026, I had a double mastectomy, and I am now considered cancer-free. Praise God.

But my journey didn’t end there.

Due to my family history, I underwent genetic testing and learned that I carry the BRCA2 gene mutation. My oncotype score also came back high, which means chemotherapy is necessary to reduce the risk of cancer returning.

I am currently scheduled to go through chemotherapy for 12 weeks (one session every 3 weeks).

This experience has changed my life in every way, not just physically and emotionally, but financially.

My six-figure income was gone overnight, and I have no current source of income. Even if I were to get another job, the reality is that chemotherapy has made it extremely difficult to function consistently. Some days, my body is in so much pain that I can’t function at all.

I never imagined I would be in a position where I couldn’t provide for myself, or would have to ask for help. Recently, I had to take money from my daughter’s wallet just to pay for my prescription. That moment broke me. I felt desperate.

My aunt created this GoFundMe to support me during this time, and through the generosity of others, we were able to raise over $5,000. Those funds helped cover immediate expenses like insurance and essential bills, and I am deeply grateful. At this point those funds have run out.

Right now, I am facing:

The urgent need to cover health insurance for the next six months
The risk of interrupting my chemotherapy treatment
Ongoing household expenses with no current income

This is a critical window and I need to stay consistent with treatment to reduce my risk of recurrence.

I have decided to share this page beyond family and friends, which hasn't been an easy decision to make. If you feel led to support me during this time, I would truly appreciate it.

Your support will help me stay in treatment and maintain insurance.

If you’re not able to give, sharing this page or keeping me in your prayers means just as much.

I believe in doing everything I can on my end and trusting God with the rest.

Thank you for supporting me.

With gratitude,
Synette
