Supporting Symphony Ellis and family
On Thursday, August 5, Symphony Ellis, 5th grade Valedictorian at John Wister Elementary and a Horizons at Greene Street Friends School student, was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children after a severe allergic reaction to something she ate for dinner. Her body went into anaphylaxis, with multiple organs shutting down even after her mother administered an EpiPen. She was rushed to the hospital via ambulance, and had no pulse upon arrival. After several rounds of CPR, doctors were successful in recucitating Symphony, but they have declared severe brain damage because she was deprived of oxygen for so long.
Doctors have said that it is unlikely that Symphony will walk, talk or breath again on her own, and she has been on life support for four days. Everyone in Symphony’s circle is praying for a miracle.
Symphony is known for her magnetic personality, her warmth, and her strength. Not only that, but she is the recipient of the 2021-22 Germantown Scholar Award (a full scholarship) at Greene Street Friends School, an accomplishment she worked hard for, and a dream come true for her mother. At Horizons she is a “big sister” to many of our younger students, offering hugs and affection daily. She is leader in every sense of the word and fills the world around her with her Light. Since her admission to the hospital, she has been surrounded by the love of her tireless parents, as well as her family, friends and faith community.
It is clear that the road ahead will be a long one and I’m requesting support for the family. Funds will be used to cover meals, medical fees and other expenses that are sure to quickly become a burden.
Thank you in advance for your support and encouragement. Per mom’s request, please pray for healing and restoration.
With gratitude,
Malia Gilbert
