This GoFundMe will help Stephen McBride access the many supports required due to his ALS diagnosis.

The impact of Steve’s work in the community is impossible to encompass in words. From his early coaching years in Gimli Manitoba to leading the Paralympic team out of Victoria BC, no impact of his has been small. It is his commitment to his values that has inspired true change in the sport - inclusion, honesty, compassion, and hard work. These values have not just guided his career, but have also inspired the rest of the country to bring these values to their communities.

For the last 20 years, Steve worked at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. He dedicated his time to creating a program that improved the lives of hundreds of athletes, volunteers, staff, and supporters. Steve now continues to coach and support his athletes from a volunteer position. He is more than the sum of his accomplishments, he is the heart of a community.

From small pep talks in the sailing shed, to last minute speeches of inspiration before big races, every person has a memory of Steve making them feel seen and heard. He has been faithful to his belief that every part of the community is important, from new sailors to Olympic campaigners. He has created a promise that everybody in the community receives support when they need it, and it is time for us to honour that promise.
