Supporting Stella- Precious Preemie in NICU

Donation protected
Stella’s story began on a Sunday, November 21, 2021. Due to a placental abruption, Stella Rose was born 11 weeks premature, and has had a lengthy stay in the NICU, first at the Cleveland clinic in Port Saint Lucie as well as Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, as of today 01/11/2021, it is 51 days in the NICU. Since that day baby Stella, her mother, Taylor and her father, Jesse have faced many challenges on the road to recovery for both Taylor and Stella.

On that Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Church that Taylor and her Family attend, while walking in, Taylor slipped and fell (as it had been raining).  Taylor being 29 weeks pregnant was taken to the ER to get checked out. Upon the initial exam, all of the baby’s vitals looked good, but Taylor was having consistent contractions, just to be sure everything was okay, they ordered an ultrasound. While waiting for the ultrasound things took a turn. Taylor began bleeding heavily and they could not find the baby’s heartbeat. They rushed Taylor into emergency surgery and saved baby Stella via emergency C-section. Taylor had a placental abruption, which is a serious pregnancy complication in which the placenta detaches from the womb (uterus). The condition can be life threatening to both baby and mom as it deprives the baby of oxygen and nutrients and causes heavy blood loss to the mother. By the grace of God, Taylor and Stella were in the right place at the exact right time.

Since that day, Stella has been in the NICU, and was transferred to Nemours in Orlando on Friday, December 31st.  Enduring several setbacks throughout this whole process, including necrotizing enterocolitis the condition causes intestinal tissue to die. It can also cause a hole in the intestine. Bacteria can leak through this hole, causing serious abdominal infections. The diagnosis of NEC forced the medical team to take Stella off of feedings for over a week, which has in turn stunted her ability to bottle feed and swallow properly, but the family has remained strong and are looking forward to the day that baby Stella can come home and begin her life in the loving arms of her family, most of whom she has not gotten to meet due to covid restrictions at the hospitals.

Taylor and Jesse are doing their best to keep things going in the family which includes their two- year- old daughter Sophia. As of now, Sophia is staying with her grandparents because she is not allowed be with her parents in Orlando. Not having their Family together has taken a toll on Jesse and Taylor both emotionally and financially, as one can imagine, but the Love and Support of Family and Friends is keeping them strong.

The Ronald McDonald house charity was willing to take the family in from the start of their stay in Orlando, however they had a covid outbreak and had to shut down stays for families for a while. Twelve days after their arrival in Orlando, the Ronald McDonald house was kind enough to set the family up with a place to stay for the remainder of Stellas. While the family is grateful for this, the hospital bills are growing daily, and they yet to know what any of this could look like in the end. Any support is greatly appreciated by Taylor and Jesse, and they are hoping there is something left over to give back to the Ronald McDonald house as they have been very kind and helpful during such an emotional and stressful time.

God blessed us all with this precious bundle of joy, Stella Rose Peeden! ❤
