Miss Sophia entered the world at just 27 weeks, weighing less than two pounds and with a medical diagnosis of gastroschisis. Her intestines have since been pushed back in and doctors are waiting for her to show that her intestinal tract is functional. This past week she’s been fighting a staph infection, which has caused her skin to peel off her body. She is slowly healing from this infection. Miss Sophia has shown us her strength and determination. We continue to cover her in prayer – prayers for hope and healing.
Mom (Erika) is also on her own journey of healing. Her c-section turned into a five-hour surgery where removal of the uterus was necessary because she began to hemorrhage from the condition of placenta previa. She needed ten bags of blood, which were life saving. While in surgery, doctors also needed to repair her bladder and realized that her ureter had been damaged. She had a second surgery the next day on her right kidney. In mid-December she will have a sedated procedure to ascertain the damage to her right ureter and in mid-January she will have the surgery to reattach her right ureter to her bladder. Most recently she was diagnosed with a blood clot that is leaving her quite immobile. This sweet and soulful mama needs prayers for healing, recovery, and strength as well.
Dad (Jarred) continues to balance work with daily hospital visits to Sophia, doctor’s appointments for Erika, and now twice daily injections for Erika’s blood clot.
They have a long road ahead - both mom and Sophia need time to rest and recover. Sophia will be in the NICU until at least February. To help with associated expenses and lessen the burden, we are asking for your support. Thank you in advance. It’s times like these when you know that it takes a village!
