5k a day in May to support Sharon Sewell
So for anyone who knows me, I’m not a runner, I don’t like running and I avoid it wherever possible. However I am going to run 5k - a day- in May - and this is to raise money for my lovely friend and netball team mate Sharon Sewell. Here’s why.....
In January, Sharon was rushed to Glenfield hospital for emergency surgery to repair a tear in her Aorta (Aortic Dissection). Since then, she has undergone numerous lifesaving procedures to deal with major complications and life threatening internal bleeding. Sharon also caught Covid whilst in hospital, adding to what was already an extremely traumatic time for her and her family.
As a result of the Aortic Dissection and all of the surgery Sharon has been through she will now live her life as a Paraplegic. Being the brave and strong woman that she is, she has come through all of this and after 5 weeks on the Intensive Care Unit she remains in hospital 3 months on having recently been transferred to London and had her final surgery to repair her Aortic Valve. Her final move will be to go to the Sheffield Spinal Cord Injuries Centre for an intense rehabilitation programme to build her upper body strength and prepare her for home and for a completely new way of life. This is just a snapshot of what she has been through and how quickly her life has changed in a flash, the fact she is still alive is amazing in itself.
We aim to raise enough money to purchase equipment including a specialised wheelchair, make adjustments to her home and to pay for ongoing medical expenses to enhance her recovery. This will mean Sharon can continue to do the things that she loves such as continue to work, fundraise for charity, cook for her family and friends and be as independent as possible. This is where we are hoping that all of Sharon’s wonderful family, friends, colleagues, and anyone whose life she has touched can step in and support Sharon in any way you can to allow her the opportunity to continue to live life to the full.
Sharon is one of the most selfless and lovely ladies you could ever meet and has done so much for local and small charities and vulnerable people in Derby, so I wanted to do something to give a little back to her, to help make life easier when she returns home to her family.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated by myself, Sharon and all of her family and friends
A great big thanks in advance Xxx
