Shane's Heart Journey

Donation protected
  • Hi, my name is Sonia Lambert. I am Shane Vanderloos sister in law. I have known Shane since 1993. He married my twin sister Tonia back in 1995. That year they also started their family with their first born child, Danara. After high-school, Shane was very involved in becoming a paramedic. He started his career in Sheboygan, WI. From there they moved to Mitchell, SD where he worked as a paramedic for the Mitchell fire department. From Mitchell they moved to Sioux falls and started with the Sioux falls ambulance which turned into Rural Metro. During that time he also flew with Averas Careflight team. He then transferred to Sioux Valleys Air Ambulance helicopter and fixed wing. During that time they welcomed their second child, Daulton in 2000. In 2002 he was forced to retire due to his heart disease. Shane's history with heart complications started with his very first heart attack at only age 25 and followed his first bypass surgery at 26 years old. Over the years he has countless procedures. When 2015-2016 rolled around he got the heart breaking news he was diagnosed with heart failure. Currently his left ventricle is not getting any blood. His heart is incredibly enlarged and very thick walls. On 09/22/2023 he was found by 2 men passing the Renner ball field. They found him laying face down in the grass unresponsive. They rolled him over and began CPR until the flight team arrived. They had shocked him but still no pulse. Flight team decided they were going to intabuate him and fly him to Sanford which led him to be on life support. From the time the guarian angels found him to the time he arrived at Sanford, they had worked on him for approximately 70 minutes. The morning of 09/23/2023 they extubated him in which led him to allow him to breath with the help of nasal cannula. Due to the CPR he now has 14 fractured ribs. They also determined he still has pneumonia which ultimately led him to his last hospital admission. The cardiovascular team are now trying to determine what made him go into cardiac arrest. They are waiting to perform a exploratory procedure on Monday or Tuesday to determine the cause and possibly put in a defibrillator. Shane has had part time jobs throughout the years but due to his extensive heart history, Tonia has been the main source of income for the last 16 years. These donations will go towards medical bills that have been adding up. Just within the last 2 months, Shane has been hospitalized 3 times. First 2 times were 5 days each. This stay is critical and we do not know when he will be discharged. Family members will also be meal prepping to help out during this time. Any donation is beyond appreciated. Please help to get the Vanderloo family back on their feet.
My family appreciates all of your love and support!
