Hi my name is Kaleigh. Over the past few weeks I have volunteered by doing childcare and education at Satellite Angelos Education Centre within Riruta, Nairobi. Although I mainly taught the primary children aged 3-6 yrs, I ended up learning more from them in the end. This is the smallest glimpse of what that looked like - with children who are the most positive, selfless, and full-of-life human beings I’ve ever met, despite not knowing if they are going to get a plate of food each day. They pray before each meal out of uncertainty of the next one, and those as young as three already have been taught to offer and share their portions with anyone around them without hesitation. There are 88 children at the school and to feed one child for the day costs $0.25 cents (30 KES); or $122 a week for the whole school.

I have set up this GoFundMe in support of the school and the future of these children. If you would like to donate even a little towards helping the circumstances of these kids, the proceeds will go directly to the principal of the school, Geoffrey. While the priority will be ensuring there is food on their plates, other needs include school supplies, resources, and infrastructure. This includes pencils, notebooks, laying gravel in the schoolyard so that they aren’t inhaling blown dirt flying into the classroom, paying the four teachers who currently show up day after day without any pay to feed their own families, fixing the walls that are falling apart, adding benches/chairs so everyone in the class has a seat. Just to name a few.
