Supporting Sarah in Sickness

Donation protected
Introduction:
We have always believed in the value of hard work; gratitude and we try to give as we can to help others when we see a need. It's not in our nature to ask for help at the drop of a hat, but sometimes life throws curveballs that require us to reach out to others.

A bit of background:
My wife Sarah is a remarkable person who, among other things, is battling Type 1 diabetes and complications from it. She has undergone two pancreas transplants, the last one being eleven years ago but both have been rejected, leading to an autoimmune disorder and surgeries. She requires multiple medications, hospital visits, and recently has faced very painful episodes in her abdomen leading to a recent surgery, and 6 hospital stays each up to a month or more with only a week to three days of respite between each stay. She has been at home a total of 3 ½ weeks since early summer began. As of the first week of November she had been staying out of inpatient and we have only seen the inside of the hospital for a Port placement and follow up appointments. I had to take her into the hospital today Nov. 30th and her pain has become sever again. This is why I am currently taking care of her.

A bit about us:
Sarah and I found each other in 2018 during a time when she was on the path to recovery. We've spent 5 incredible years together filled with happiness, the last 2 of them free from inpatient hospital visits. However, we find ourselves in a challenging and uncertain phase of our lives.

Our current situation and needs:
In order to devote my time and attention to her care, I had to take a leave of absence from work, which means we do not have a regular income. I am also paying the premium for each month to maintain our health benefits while I am out. While we are grateful for the assistance of a weekly nurse, I am Sarah's primary source of support, transportation, and medical aid. My daily tasks begin with morning medication, checking her sugar, and medical maintenance for supporting equipment she has. I cook for her, assist her to and from the bathroom, assist her in bathing and attend to any need she has from a drink, reminders for medication to being an advocate for her when it comes to doctors by remembering key details of her past treatment.

  • The funds raised will be used towards essential expenses such as:

Bills: Assistance with paying off the utilities.

Travel expenses: Covering the costs of transportation for Sarah's appointments, hospital visits, and overnight stays to keep her from feeling down, feeling alone, and to communicate with doctors when she is unable to do so while in the hospital.
Uncovered supplies: Providing necessary supplies that are not covered by insurance to support
Sarah's recovery.

Pet care: Ensuring our beloved dog receives proper care and nutrition.

Daily living expenses: Helping us with other basic needs not covered by food assistance, until we can regain stability.

Every contribution matters:
We understand that times are tough, and everyone's wallets and purses are feeling lighter. That's why we sincerely appreciate any amount you can contribute. Your kindness will go a long way in helping us overcome these obstacles.

Closing thoughts:
Asking for help is never easy, especially when we have always preferred to give our time, affection, and financial support, when we can. However, at this moment, we humbly acknowledge that we need assistance. Any support you can provide will be cherished and deeply appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

With love and gratitude,
Sarah and Dan
