Supporting Sarah with the Gift of Recovery from COVID
Our friend Sarah Collins is an independent young woman who, before COVID, was leading a joyful and active life. Sarah runs her own business at Mt Tabor Music School , where she also teaches piano, composition, and voice. She’s beloved by so many whose lives have been touched by her ability to find true connection, her delightful sense of humor, her generous heart and her empathetic nature. Right now she is suffering and needs our help!
Sarah is one of the COVID sufferers referred to as “long haulers ” - those who don’t require hospitalization but who endure months of debilitating, unpredictable, and unceasing symptoms. Since contracting COVID at the beginning of April, Sarah has not gone a single day without a fever, intense fatigue, and shortness of breath, along with a host of other miserable and uncomfortable symptoms that affect her entire body, and that flare and subside with no real discernible pattern.
Sarah has worked closely with doctors since the illness began to best manage these symptoms and try to understand their triggers, but despite her dedication to various treatment plans, the virus continues to deeply affect her. Some days she feels symptoms start to subside and has hope that real recovery is underway, only to feel them return a day or two later. As a self-employed business owner, Sarah doesn’t have paid sick time to support her through recovery, and instead often has to take time off when the illness won’t allow her to work, resulting in lost income and added stress.
Through these difficult months, Sarah’s network of friends and family have done their best to support her by delivering food and supplies, picking up prescriptions, and contributing to meal delivery gift cards. This has helped her manage the day-to-day of continuing to run the business, provide virtual piano lessons, and take care of herself as much as possible. But managing the day-to-day is a bandaid solution and not a true path to recovery. In order to put this virus behind her, Sarah needs a more focused recovery plan.
At this time, after almost four months of illness and many ups and downs, Sarah and her doctor believe that in order for her body to truly move past this virus, the best approach is an extended amount of time to rest and heal. Being able to let go of work responsibilities and financial concerns for a month would lift a major barrier to her recovery. Through her research and connections with other COVID long-haulers, she knows that others have experienced recovery only when they’ve committed to full, concentrated rest.
And so to make true recovery a reality for Sarah, we’ve created this page to inspire some communal support. The goal of $5,000 will cover her expenses for a full month and give her the peace of mind she needs to focus on getting past COVID. All contributions will bring Sarah closer to reclaiming her health, experiencing normalcy, and returning to her vibrant, active life.
