Last Thursday evening Mike Schmidt, 48 year-old single father, unexpectedly sustained cardiac arrest and was found unresponsive.
His doctors put him on life support and into a medically induced coma over the weekend. As it was determined that there was no meaningful brain function left, the family made the very difficult decision to take him off life support and grant his wishes to be an organ donor.
Mike peacefully passed June 5th.
Mike was a former fire fighter and EMT for the City of New Berlin Fire Department. Most notably, "Mr. Mike" was an adored youth instructor at The Ridge Community Church in Greenfield. Mike was always a giver. He always shared his time and love with his close-knit family.
His sister Karen, and Grandparents Larry & Joan, have also graciously been assisting with the care of his daughter, Rylie Salyers, 15 years old, whom Mike had sole custody of.
Deep in his faith, he is now resting with his Eternal Father.
