Rose Hollingsworth and Arlen Pedersen had a beautiful baby boy, Soren Kendrick Pedersen on November 27th. After giving birth, Rose suffered ascending paralysis & quickly lost the function of her limbs. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré (an autoimmune disorder that destroys the myelin sheath around your nerves). She received immunotherapy which stops the progression of the disease, but does not repair the damage already done.
She is now in intensive daily physical therapy at Portland Providence. She’s making progress, but it's going to be several months before she can walk again... Arlen and Baby Soren have remained with her at the hospital during her battle to regain mobility. It will take at least six weeks before they can go home.
Arlen is currently trying to assess what changes will need to be made to their home to accommodate for Rose's lack of mobility. These changes will likely be extensive. The road to recovery will be a long hard journey for this new family. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated.
