Hey everyone,
I never imagined I’d be in a position to ask for help, but some of my closest friends are in need and their dog has been going through a difficult time right now.
Robin is a beloved corgi who is currently hospitalized with liver inflammation and possibly liver damage. The cost of his care has grown beyond what his owners can manage, but they want to give Robin a fighting chance.
If you know May and David, you know that their world revolves around Robin. They bring him with them everywhere they go because he's their 'sidekick.' Robin just turned 12 years old last week, but people are shocked when they hear his age because he still looks and acts so young.
Back in July, Robin was showing signs of elevated liver levels. His doctor put him on medications to help protect his liver, but it got worse a few months later and he ended up needing emergency surgery due to liver inflammation. They made the decision to do everything they could possibly do to save him. Robin had his spleen removed as a precaution and a biopsy was done on his liver for continued diagnostics. Over the course of his treatment, they spent around $15,000 on the surgery, hospital stays, diagnostics, and medications. David was planning on leaving his second job but has continued to work 7 days a week to help pay for Robin’s medical bills. They truly believed they could handle the cost themselves. They nursed him around the clock and poured their hearts into his recovery.
And it worked, for a little. Robin made an incredible comeback. His restrictions were released and he was back to his normal happy self again.
Unfortunately, as the new year began, they noticed cognitive changes in Robin. He started bumping into walls, pacing in circles, and seeming disoriented. After undergoing an MRI and CT scan, the doctors believe this may be a recurrence or progression of his liver issues causing toxins that aren’t filtered properly by his liver to affect his cognitive function. While this is devastating news, there is some hope and it may be manageable with medication and ongoing treatment.
After everything they’ve already spent, the cost of continued testing, hospitalization, and long-term management has become overwhelming. We’re humbly asking for help to give Robin the care he needs and the chance to keep chasing balls and run around the dog beach. He has been their constant companion and source of joy. From his prior surgery, we know he’s a fighter. Robin still has so much life in him.
Any contribution would go a long way in Robin’s care. Thank you for reading his story and for considering a donation to help May and David save Robin again.
