Hi everyone, my name is Thomas Newman. It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my brother, Phillip Newman, has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) of the pelvis. Please pray for healing and strength for Phillip and his sweet wife, Ana.
The Backstory
On July 18th, Phillip went to an Orthopedic doctor in order to receive an injection for persistent hip pain. While the medical team was using imaging to give Phillip a steroid injection, they detected a tumor on his pelvic bone. In the few days that followed, Phillip had an MRI and met with an Orthopedic Oncologist at Vanderbilt University Hospital—the doctor said based on the imaging, it looks like a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. On July 24th, a biopsy confirmed that Phillip has cancer. (Those words are still very difficult to say out loud.) Phillip will begin chemotherapy on Monday, July 29th.
How You Can Help
Phillip and Ana have a difficult road ahead of them, and many of you have asked how you can help. Here are three tangible ways that we can serve them:
(1) Pray. (I put this first for a reason.) Phillip and Ana are heartbroken by the diagnosis, but they are fully trusting in God and they are determined to show God’s love to everyone they meet on their journey. *Those were literally Phillip’s first words after the cancer diagnosis* Pray for healing. Pray that Phillip would respond well to chemotherapy. Pray for Ana as she takes care of Phillip.
(2) Consider supporting Phillip and Ana financially during this difficult time. Phillip will be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. On top of that, Phillip and Ana will have medical bills + travel and lodging for appointments in Nashville. Any money donated will be used to share their burden and lift them up. I picked $12,000, because that would be $1,000/month for the next 12 months. Side note: Imagine if we could surpass $12,000. I can’t imagine how encouraging that would be after all that Phillip and Ana have been through.
(3) Please help us get the word out! You can share this link (as well as future updates) on your Facebook Timeline. More people sharing=more people praying. We will share regular updates as Phillip and Ana begin this journey together.
If you are still reading this long post, thank you— from the bottom of my heart. Let’s show Phillip and Ana how much we love them.
On behalf of the entire Newman family,
Thomas Newman
