We are creating this GoFundMe on behalf of our valued employee Christeena (Chrissy) and her family, who are currently facing an exceptionally tough and emotional journey.
Earlier this year, on 12 February, Chrissy’s mum Elizabeth (Liz) was diagnosed with Metastatic de novo multifocal bilateral breast cancer - ER positive, HER2 positive, with metastasis to her bones and lungs. Her full diagnosis includes lymphangitis carcinomatosis, lung metastasis, and skeletal metastasis. This diagnosis alone is life-changing, and the months that followed brought even more heartbreak.
On 28 July, the family suddenly lost their father Robert, to non-small cell lung cancer, only three months after he received his own diagnosis. He was the sole income earner and had very little superannuation. With no life or health insurance in place, the financial burden fell entirely on their children. The family pulled together to cover funeral expenses, and despite their best efforts, his car was repossessed when repayments became impossible.
Liz and Robert had also been full-time carers for their young grandson, Tyler, since 2020. He is now 6 years old and Liz continues to be his primary carer, even while undergoing intensive treatment
The effects of treatment have been extremely harsh. Liz has lost most of her hair and her health is declining. She is unable to work and is currently trying to survive on disability pension.
Chemotherapy has damaged her teeth to the point that she has already had her lower teeth removed and is scheduled to have the remaining upper teeth extracted next week. Once she has healed from these procedures, she will be able to be considered for dentures and further dental work to restore her smile and finally get some confidence back.
Despite everything she is facing, losing her partner of 22 years, caring for her grandson, and undergoing aggressive treatment Liz continues to show remarkable strength.
Why we are asking for support
The financial strain on this family is immense. With their father gone, their mum unable to work, and ongoing medical and dental costs, they are doing their best but simply cannot manage alone.
We want to rally around them as a workplace community and help ease the pressure during this incredibly challenging time.
Funds raised will go directly towards:
• Medical and dental expenses
• Living costs during treatment
• Essential household expenses as the family adjusts to life without their father
How you can help
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is also a tremendous help.
We appreciate every bit of support offered to Chrissy and her family as they navigate this heartbreaking journey.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
