Our mom was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Since October, she has undergone a double mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection. While we are so grateful she made it through both surgeries, her journey is far from over. She is now being recommended chemotherapy and radiation and then hormone therapy for years after — a long and physically demanding road ahead.
She has been hesitant to ask for help. In our family, there has always been a quiet sense of shame placed on needing support, a belief that we should carry everything on our own. We were strongly advised not to create this GoFundMe for that reason. But we are choosing to break that cycle. Allowing people to show up for us is not weakness, it is community. It is love.
There are medical bills, transportation costs to and from frequent hospital visits, and many unexpected expenses that come with cancer treatment. There will be long hours spent at the hospital for infusions and days afterward where she has little to no energy. Our focus right now is making sure she can heal with as much comfort and peace as possible.
We are asking for help from those who are able. There is absolutely no pressure to donate. Truly. If you are not in a position to give, we kindly ask that you share our mom’s story.
Thank you for standing with us during this time and for surrounding her with strength as she continues this fight.
With gratitude,
Chloe, Jacob, and Zachary
