Our beautiful friend Kathy is a 46-year-old single Mum, who in September last year found a small lump in her breast.
She had a biopsy on 4th October 2023 and on 25th October 2023 she received a devastating diagnosis of stage 3 aggressive triple negative breast cancer (One of the worst forms of cancer and hardest to treat)
Even after hearing such devastating news Kathy remained strong and determined to fight with everything she had.
She started Chemo on 30th October 2023, which was once a week, until 2nd April 2024.
During this time, she continued to work full time as much as she could and tried to stay involved in her sporting activities when she could.
We were all so amazed at how well she took this in her stride although not surprised as this woman’s strength and determination is admirable.
She continues with immunotherapy and on the 8th of May 2024 she underwent surgery to remove the lump and lymph gland.
Unfortunately, this didn’t go to plan and cancer cells remained present in Kathy’s body.
This was a devastating blow to not only Kath but all of us.
This news will now see Kath have to travel to Newcastle every day for 3 weeks (a one and a half hour journey each way).
Then she will have to undergo more surgery which will include a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery along with the continuation of immunotherapy every 3 weeks until October 2024 and chemo tablets for 6months.
Aside from the huge emotional toll this is taking on Kathy it also comes at a huge financial cost. As a single Mum, she must pay a mortgage on her own, fuel to travel, food on the table for her kids along with all other basic living costs.
The community and her friends will rally as much as possible to help with the kids and the support she needs, but she really needs help financially. We would love to be able to take this hideous disease away for Kath, but we can’t. As anyone that’s seen a loved one take this journey it’s tough! We would love to at least ease one of Kath’s burdens by taking away some of the financial pressure. She’s a proud person who would never ask for help but right now that’s what she needs.
We know times are tough for everyone but even the tiniest amount can help a lot and we would be grateful for any support you could possibly give.
Kathy is a brilliant Mum, a hard worker and a very dear friend and right now we just want her to know “We’ve all got you”.
Thanks for your support. Please share this to help us help Kath. X
