When I signed up for this race last year, I never imagined it would turn into a fundraiser for something so close to my heart https://sportivaevents.co.uk/events/roadford-lake-swim/

In 2011, my mum was diagnosed with ocular melanoma. Thanks to the incredible advancements in research, the cancer was kept under control for several years. We were fortunate to have those extra, precious years together—years filled with love, laughter, and memories I will always cherish.

In November 2023, scans showed that the cancer had spread to her liver. Despite everything, my mum faced it all with unimaginable strength and grace. In March 2025, I lost her.

I am forever grateful for the time research gave me with my mum—but it's not enough. Existing treatments aren't perfect, and far too many families are still going through what we did. That’s why I am dedicating this swim to her memory, and why every penny raised will go directly to Ocular Melanoma UK—to support the vital work they do and to help fund the research that can bring hope to others.
