Help support Nickson's yoga journey!
Let’s rewind to 2018. I (Sylvia) was teaching yoga and had the privilege of hosting a retreat in the coastal town of Kilifi, Kenya. Here, I met Nickson. His genuine curiosity and interest in yoga drew us together, and we became fast friends. Since then, Nickson and I have stayed in touch and grown in our friendship, visiting each other and taking yoga classes together on my trips back to Kenya.
Since 2018, Nickson’s journey with yoga has been nothing short of inspiring. He immersed himself in Kenya’s vibrant yoga community, attending festivals, learning from Kenya’s best teachers, and weaving his practice into his daily life. Nickson began teaching informally, inspiring many along the way. Now, he stands at a pivotal moment: Nickson has been accepted into a yoga teacher training program in Nairobi this Fall which would make him a certified yoga teacher, allowing him to teach formally, be compensated fairly and share all he’s learned with others on a much wider scale.
The Scholarship
Nickson’s dedication earned him a scholarship covering 50% of the tuition. But here’s the challenge: balancing his dreams with the reality of supporting his family through his day job leaves little room for additional expenses. That’s where we come in.
Our Goal: We’re coming together to raise the remaining funds—$2,250—to cover tuition and the costs associated with Nickson’s stay in Nairobi during the training.
Nickson’s formal certification will open up many more opportunities for him to teach and share all that he’s learned as well as support himself and his community. Nickson has big dreams—to create an inclusive space in Kilifi where yoga is accessible to all, regardless of financial constraints, and I’m so excited to see this dream come to fruition.
How You Can Help
- Donate: We’re inviting 90 friends to contribute $25 each. Every dollar counts, and together, we’re sure we can reach our goal. Nickson & Sylvia will track all the donations and Sylvia will transfer the sum to Nickson’s mpesa account in Kenya.
- Stay Connected: Reach out to Nickson directly. Your words of congratulations and encouragement mean the world to him. You can reach him and follow his journey on Instagram: @yogakilifi. We’ll also be sure to update you on email along the way!
Thank you for considering this request and know that even if you can’t support Nickson financially, we appreciate all of your well wishes. The world needs more of those these days.
Warmly,
Sylvia & Nickson
